Hallam Ascent Group

The group was formed in Summer 2003 and, although based on St Francis Parish, Sandygate, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England is open to all in and around the Diocese of Hallam. In January 2017 Hallam Ascent decided to leave Life Ascending but continues to share its aims of Spirituality, Friendship and Mission. Covid-19 terminated our activities in March 2020 and nothing further will happen until our members have been vaccinated and we can keep people safe.
Website Updates

The Hallam Ascent website is currently mothballed until a new committee is formed, hopefully sometime in 2021.

Life Ascending (formerly the Ascent Movement)

Picture
The ASCENT Movement was renamed as Life Ascending with a new logo in 2016, but we decided to continue under the name of Hallam Ascent as we have worked hard to grow as an active Diocesan Group with a proper mix of spirituality, mission and friendship. Hallam ASCENT is aimed at those in the second half of life i.e. those over 50, retired or preparing to retire, both men and women. You don't have to be invited to join, it isn't exclusive and most of our activities are affordable except, perhaps, day retreats or visits.

Hallam ASCENT meets once a month, usually on the first Wednesday, for prayer time (Spirituality), a talk or discussion followed by tea (Friendship). Our programme is interesting and varied. Throughout the year we support local parish events and charities as part of our Mission work. Occasionally, we meet for more social events such as walks, pub lunches, and games afternoons. We try to ensure that everyone can attend our walks with long and short versions, but some of our less physically able members while away the time chatting, whilst the more able walk.

Members of the group would be willing to visit other parishes in the Hallam Diocese and help them to experience a sample ASCENT meeting, and perhaps assist them in starting their own group. Please contact the Webmaster for more information. Our past programmes are provided on the Downloads and Resources page to give other ASCENT or LIFE ASCENDING groups some ideas for different things to do. If you are new to the idea of Ascent, and want to know more, please don't hesitate to contact us - see below.

Membership currently costs £5 for each individual member payable in January.

The Webmaster can be contacted by filling in the form on the "contact us" part of the site or by emailing ascent@jngreen.plus.com

Where we meet

Picture
Unless stated elsewhere, ALL meetings will take place at the Assisi Hall, St Francis of Assisi RC Church, 277 Sandygate Road, Sandygate, Sheffield S10 5SD (which is opposite the currently closed Plough public house)  on the first Wednesday of each month. We meet at 1.45pm with the meeting proper starting at 2.00pm prompt. It ends at 3.45pm. Plenty of parking is available at the back of the church. Take the No 51 Bus towards Lodge Moor, ask for the Cardoness Drive stop and then walk  forward in the direction of Lodge Moor for half a minute. Buses run every 10-12 minutes or so.
