Hallam Ascent Group
The group was formed in Summer 2003 and, although based on St Francis Parish, Sandygate, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England is open to all in and around the Diocese of Hallam; although our aim is to encourage more parishes or deaneries to host their own group.
The Ascent Movement
The ASCENT Movement is an international movement within the Catholic Church, and has the blessings of the Holy See, being known as Life Ascending International or Vie Montante Internationale. ASCENT is aimed at those in the second half of life i.e. those over 50, retired or preparing to retire, both men and women.
Each ASCENT group develops according to the interests within the 3 "prongs" of the movement - Friendship, Spirituality and Mission.
Hallam Ascent meets once a month, usually on the first Wednesday, for prayer time (Spirituality), a talk or discussion followed by tea (Friendship). Throughout the year we support local parish events and charities as part of our Mission work. Occasionally we meet for more social events such as walks, pub lunches, and games afternoons.
Some members of the group would be willing to visit other parishes in the Hallam Diocese and help them to experience a sample ASCENT meeting, and perhaps assist them in starting their own group. Please contact the Webmaster for more information. Our past programmes are provided on this site to give other ASCENT groups some ideas for different things to do. We try to make sure that everyone can attend our walks with short and long versions as well as just having a place to sit and chat for those who find walking a real effort.
Membership currently costs £8 (£12 for a couple) payable in January. The fee includes the national ASCENT Journal.
The Webmaster can be contacted by filling in the form on the "contact us" part of the site or by emailing ascent@jngreen.plus.com
